Obtaining, analysing and evaluating results Flashcards

1
Q

How do we calculate the uncertainty of a measuring instrument?

A

(Instrument resolution/ Reading taken) x 100

E.g. A reading of 100cm on a 1cm ruler = (1/100)x 100=1% uncertainty

Q

What is the difference between repeatability and reproducibility?

A

Repeatability is how much your results vary and whether they are consistent.

Reproducibility is whether you can achieve the same conclusion/ similar results when reproducing the experiment either on a different time or with different people.
