This woman would be on her second pregnancy, having one child already
Fundus
The top portion of the uterus that forms landmarks for assessing gestation
Cephalic
The baby is in the head down position for birth
Breech
the baby is in the feet first presentation for birth
SROM
Spontaneous Rupture of Membranes (broken waters)

the bowel contents of the baby at birth

Placenta
The organ that develops in the uterus during pregnancy to transfer nourishment and oxygen to the baby from the mother
Preterm
Baby born before 37 weeks gestation
Term
37 – 42 weeks is the normal duration of pregnancy. Term describes that time at the end of pregnancy when baby is expected to be born
Trimester
One third of a pregnancy
What happens in the first stage of labour?
The cervix dilates to 10cm, contractions become more regular. 12- 14hrs
What happens in the second stage of labour?
starts when the cervix is fully dilated and ends when the baby isborn. Usually about an hour but can be up to 2 hrs.
What happens in the third stage of labour?
delivery of placenta. Within 30 minutes
What is an ectopic pregnancy?
Caused by the developing embryo implanting outside the uterine cavity
What skill should you use if shoulder dystocia is present?
