When should you do a pregnancy test?
21 days after you last had unprotected sex
How soon after a miscarriage should a pregnancy test be done?
2 weeks after, if positive come back in
What examinations / measurements are taken at the first antenatal appointment?
- Weight and height for BMI
- BP
- Testing urine for glycosuria/proteinuria
What routine blood tests are done in the antenatal screening?
Anaemia Blood group + rhesus Rubella status Haemaglobin disorders (sickel cell / thalassaemia) Infections; HIV, Hep B, Syphilis Diabetes
What routine USS are done during pregnancy, when and why are they done?
Early - works out EDD
11-14 weeks - Gestational age, multiple pregnancy, PED
20 weeks - Congenital / structural abnormalities; cardiac, NTD, renal
32 weeks - placental previa
What is the risk to the fetus and the mother of chicken pox (varicella zoster) during pregnancy?
What is the treatment?
Fetus - malformations, defects
Mother - varicella pneumonitis
Rx; VZ IgG screen»_space;> VZIG (if not immune)
What are the risk factors for placental abruption?
PIPES
Pre-eclampsia IUGR Previous history of abruption Essential HTN Smoking
What are the risk factors for uterine rupture?
Uterine scar (c-sec, myotomy)
Trauma
Overdistention (polyhydramnios, macrosomia, multiple)
Obstruction of labour
What are the indications for hospital admission in pregnancy?

- Headaches
- Visual blurring
- Epigastric pain
Signs
- Proteinuria +1 (>0.3g/24h)
- Diastolic BP >100
- Suspected fetal compromise
Name two significant complications of UTI’s in pregnancy?
Pyelonephritis (fever, chills, vomiting and loin pain)
Premature labour
