What does APGAR stand for?

A

Appearance (skin color) - blue/pale, acrocyanosis, pink

Pulse rate - absent, <100, >100

Grimace (irritability) - no response to stim., grimace on suction/aggressive stim., cry on stim.

Activity (muscle tone) - none, some flexion, flexed arms and legs resist extension

Respiratory effort - absent, weak/irregular/gasping, strong/robust cry
