8
Q

What do gyres do?

A

Create mass movement of heat energy from the tropics to the North and to the tropics evening out the temperature gradient

16
Q

Name a temperature front

A

The Gulf Stream

17
Q

Name a salinity front

A

The Mediterranean outflow

18
Q

Why are oceanic fronts important?

A

They help determine the distribution of oceanic life

19
Q

Density is a function of……

A

Salinity and Temperature

20
Q

Describe Density Circulation

A

Warm saline water sinks to 1,000m in the Atlantic, it flows to the West and Coriolis moves it to the Right, it moves North equalling out the temperature gradient. This is indicated by the salinities to the West of the UK
