observing, inferring and classifying Flashcards
perceptions that use our senses: sight (eyes), taste (tongue), smell (nose), hearing (ears), and touch (skin).
Qualitative observations
it is made with instruments such as meter sticks, rulers, weighing scales, cylinders, etc.; which allows us to give more specific information.
Quantitive observations
are based on the direct evidence gathered about an object
observation
when we interpret or explain what we have observed
inference
way of imposing order in which we group them based on their similarities, difference, and interrelationships
classifying
the simplest method of classification; the object is placed into rank order based on the particular common property
serial ordering
A set of objects is simply divided into two subsets on the basis of whether each object has or does not have a particular property.
Binary classification system
we perform binary classification on a set of objects again and again so that a hierarchy of sets and subsets is established.
multi-stage classification
