What is IDDSI?
International Dysphagia Diet Standerdisation Initiative
What is level 1?
slightly thick fluid
smoothies, milk shakes, thickened tea, coffee, squash, milk
What is level 2?
mildly thick
some milk shakes and smoothies[natural], and tea, coffee, squash, milk thickened with thicknar
pour quickly from a spoon, but slower than thin drinks.
What is level 3?
Moderately thick fluids.
Liquid will drip slowly in dollops through the prongs of a fork.
dollop- A large, shapeless of soft food.
Prongs of a fork- Tines
Tines are the sharp points of a fork.
What is level 4?
Extremely thick fluids.
IDDSI
fork drip test- The liquid will not drip through the prongs of a fork.
What is level 5 [food only]?
minced and moist.
Eaten with a fork or spoon.
Can be scooped and shaped on the plate.
What is level 6?[only for food]
soft and bite sized. Biting not needed, but requires a moderate ability to chew.
What is level 7? [ only for food]
Regular, easy to chew.
Suitable for weak chew orreduced dentition.
What are the level 7 foods?
Normal everyday foods of a soft tender texture. Can be eaten with a fork, spoon or fingers. Food piece size is not restricted. Often softsoftens with a sauce or gravy.
