Objectives 12-15 Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 5 categories of ADA, associated caliber, and describe characteristics for each
Footstomp
A
- Small arms / automatic weapons (less than 12.7mm)
- High cyclic rates of fire, thin tracer paths, no self destruct - Heavy machine gun (12.7mm to 14.5mm)
- High rate of fire, typically optically directed - Light (20mm to 25mm)
- High cyclic rates of fire, self destruct projectiles - Medium (30mm to 40mm)
- Most can be radar aimed, air burst / self-destruct munitions - Heavy (57mm and above)
- Slow rate of fire, air burt / self destruct munitions
2
Q
List and describe the three types of ADA fire
Footstomp
A
- Barrage Fire
- Mine field in the sky. Not designed to kill, but to force aircraft into better engagement area
- Used when FCR cannot accurately track - Curtain Fire *Footstomp**
- Most effective form of employing Small Arms and automatic weapons *
- Create engagement areas for massing fires - Aimed Fire
- Most controlled- preferred when target can be acquired and tracked, attempt to fire at nearest threat
- Most common in the actual target area
3
Q
Identify typical target sets for radar jammers
A
Refer to workbook
4
Q
Identify typical target sets for directed energy weapons
A
Directed energy weapons project energy in a controlled direction to cause lethal and nonlethal effects
- Laser weapons emit coherent energy at speed of light
- Low power lasers create ‘in-band’ effects against sensors; targets include the human eye, EO and IR sensors Footstomp
- High power lasers create structural damage
5
Q
List the three classes of GPS jamming techniques and identify the intended effect of each technique
Footstomp
A
Refer to workbook
6
Q
Tactical Engagement Ranges for 23/25mm and 30/37mm
A
See slide 97, ~400 times the caliber
