- Recognize that weight bias exists and is prevalent among clinicians.
find obese people less self dsiciplined, less compliant, more annoying
- List specific dietary approaches that can be used in the office to help obese patients achieve a negative energy balance and lose weight.
reduce food intake, decrease calorie intake 500-100 cal per day–> lower intake until they start to lose weight

- Understand the differences between weight loss and weight loss maintenance and the challenges involved for patients.
wt loss can be acute, exercise really helps in wt loss maintenance.
- Describe the use pedometers and the evidence for counseling patients about both “programmed” physical activity as well as “lifestyle” physical activity.
wear a pedometer for a week to find baseline
increase steps 500 steps/day/week until you get 10,000-15,000 steps a day
whether you do programmed activity or lifestyle activity you still keep wt off!!

to qualify they have to have lost 30 lbs for a minimum of 1 year
- self monitoring
- low caloried diet
- eat breakfast daily
- regular physical activity
- limit TV time
