How much weight should I gain in my pregnancy?
A
Underweight (BMI <18.5): 12.5-18 kg
Normal weight (BMI 18.5-24.9): 11.5-16 kg
Overweight (BMI 25-29.9): 7-11.5 kg
Obese Class I (BMI 30-34.9): 7kg
Obese Class II (BMI 35-39.9): 7kg
Obese Class III (BMI >40): 7kg

What complications are associated with elevated BMI?
A
All of them.
Maternal: HTN, diabetes, OSA,
Fetal: anomalies (2x inc neural tube defects), macrosomia, IUGR, prematurity,
Obstetric: miscarriage, inc rate of C/S (45% rate for BMI>35), shoulder dystocia, operative delivery, less likely to have successful VBAC
Surgical: inc operative time, PPH risk, risk of wound infection, endometritis, VTE (risk as high as 2.5% according to guideline)
