- triad: fever, RLQ/periumbilical pain, anorexia
- laboratory workup will often show leukocytosis
- dx: migratory pain- initially starting in the periumbilical area and migrating to the lower right quadrant
- may need to obtain CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis if ultrasound is unable to evaluate

Mcburney’s point 2/3 of the way to umbilicus to ASIS

- complications of PID (can result in sepsis or rupture)
- dx: Ultrasound
- tx: antibiotics and gyn consult (possible surgical intervention/drainage)

- A flagellated protozoan that is transmitted sexually
- symptoms: malodorous, vaginal discharge (green/yellow) postcoital bleeding, dyspareunia, dysuria and urinary frequency
- cervical petichiae (strawberry cervix)
ds: pelvic exam- wet mount
tx: metronidazole

diagnosis of premature rupture of membranes

- sterile speculum exam (avoid digital vaginal exam)
- nitrazine paper test: turns blue in pH greater than 6.5
- fern test: amniotic fluid will dry in a fern pattern

- sx: pain and tenderness
- PE: unilateral swelling. fluctuant if abscess
- dx: Exam and STD testing
- tx: I & d with abx (if asymptomatic no intervention needed)
