ASA use in pregnancy

A

First trim - fetal anomalies

Late - premature ductus closure, coagulation defects with hemorrhagic complications in both mother and neonate, neonatal cardiovascular complications

ASA and NSAIDS may prolong gestation and labor

Vaccine use in pregnancy:

A

Avoid live viruses in all trimesters of pregnancy as well as 3 months prior to conception - measles, mumps, rubella, poliomyelitis, intranasal influenza, varicella

Killed viruses ok - eg parenteral influenza,

?Tetanus toxoid alone or in combination with diphtheria toxoid ok, TDaP, recommendations are to administer tetanus and diphtheria in pregnancy when indicated

Immunoglobulin ok to administer throughout pregnancy
