representative is selecting group of employees to represent needs and make decisions for wider organisation e.g a board
self-determination theory
people prefer to feel like they have control over their actions.
motivation is undermined when something feels like an obligation and a task.
intrinsic and extrinsic goals
ppl feel more motivated by intrinsic goals, are more likely to achieve bc consistent with their own values and interests
