what are the general features of osteoarthritis?

can occur at any age
autoimmune, inflammatory
systemic effects
onset is rapid
painful joints are hot and swollen
morning stifness

what is the key presentation with OA?
A
pain when using joints and restricted function

how is OA diagnosed?
A
OA can be diagnosed clinically without
investigations if >45yrs, activity related joint
pain AND no morning joint related
stiffness/less than 30m

what is the analgesia for OA?
A
Topical NSAIDs
* Oral NSAIDs
* Adjuncts e.g. capsaicin, intra-articular steroids
