O & G Flashcards
anatomy placenta?
2x unbilical artery (deoxy) away from baby. vein -> oxygenated into baby.
maternal vein & artery feed into intervillous space (pool of maternal blood) come into contact & diffuse in placental membrane.
physiology of placenta?
- respiratory function: act like pair of lungs.
- fetal Hb has higher affinity for 02.
-excretion (act like kidney, balance molecule/ molecules out)-> bicarbonate, H+ , lactic, urea, creatinine.
- nutrition function: iron, folate, b12.
- immunity: Ab cross placenta. protection during pregnancy & shortly after birth. igG and IgM.
- endocrine: hormones created to maintain pregnancy-> hCg maintain corteus luteum -> other hormones produced later.
- estrogen (nice, soft and easy to stretch).
- progesterone (5+) to maintain pregnancy. keep uterus relaxed, well perfused.
extra notes (ninja nerd) ?
ampulla (secondary -met 2 oocyte and sperm fuse)- > zygote. zona pellucida lining on zygote.
dividing and cleaves -> till 16+ (morula)-> fluid filled blastocele.
implant into uterine lining (endo).
endometrium has stratum basalis/functionalis-> fill w/ glycogen + grow (decidua functionalis invaded and attached to microvilli to pinopods).
trophoblast lack clear cell border-> release hydrolyze enzyme to invade-> B-HCG released-> progesterone.
