- Summarize the 3 stages of processing food for energy
In the G.I. tract, food is digested and then absorbed to be transported by blood to tissue.
In the tissue cells, nutrients can be built into other macromolecules or further process to be used for energy by starting cellular respiration with glycolysis.
In the mitochondria pyruvate from glycolysis are further process and the citric acid cycle and etc to release ATP for the cell energy
Notes U8C2 pg 20
- List various roles the liver plays in nutrition and metabolism
- processing /filtering the majority of our nutrients
- regulating plasma cholesterol levels
- making lipoproteins for transporting lipids in the blood and regulating entry/exit from specific target cells
Notes U8C2 Pg 21
18b. Answer the following questions about what happens after food gets digested and nutrients get absorbed
B. Two things hinges can happen to these nutrients, depending on the body’s present needs. What are they ?
Can be built into other molecules that are need or used for energy
