In the G.I. tract, food is digested and then absorbed to be transported by blood to tissue.
In the tissue cells, nutrients can be built into other macromolecules or further process to be used for energy by starting cellular respiration with glycolysis.

In the mitochondria pyruvate from glycolysis are further process and the citric acid cycle and etc to release ATP for the cell energy
