Name the different types of carbohydrate
SUGAR: sugar, honey, cakes, biscuits, jam, etc. (provides empty calories)
STARCHES: cereals, pasta, breads, rice, potatoes (found at the bottom of the food pyramid)
DIETARY FIBRE: WHOLEGRAIN CEREALS, oatmeal, wholemeal, bread, fruit&vegetables. This should be a major part of the diet. Fibre cannot be digested so it helps to move food through the body with digestion

What is a nutrient?
These are chemicals (eg protein) which make up food. They are broken up during digestion into simpler substances which are then absorbed and used by the body (eg to help it grow)
