What is anthropometry?
Is a measurement system of the size and makeup of the body.
Height and weight are obtained for each patient admission to any health care setting
Discuss a selection of nutrients important for the body to function?
1.) Proteins - essential for synthesis of body tissue, growth, maintenance and repair
2.) Fats - most calorically dense nutrient. In addition to serving as fuel that supplies energy, fat cushions vital organs, lubricates body tissue, insulates and protects cell membranes
3.) Water- critical component of the body because cell function dpeneds on fluid environment
4.) Vitamins - organic substances essential to normal metabolism
Difference between positive enrgy balance Vs negative energy balance?
Positive energy balance occurs when caloric intake is greater than caloric output
Over time, calories consumed in excess contribute to weight gain
A negative energy balance: Caloric intake is less than caloric output
Reducing the intake of 500 calories a day for a week can result in 1 pound of weight loss
