What is a carbohydrate?
A food type that gives energy for growth and movement. It also gives the organism energy to keep warm.
What is a protein?
A food type needed for growth and repair of the body.
What are fats and oils?
A food type that supplies a large amount of energy. They give more energy than any other food type.
What are vitamins and minerals?
Parts of food needed to keep bodies working well.
What is the body’s immune system?
A system in the body that protects it from germs and disease.
What are the main sources of saturated fats?
Animal food products.
What is another word for sodium?
Salt
What is processed food?
Food that has been made by changing it from how it is found in nature.
What are the two main carbohydrates?
- Sugar

What foods contain sugar?
Fruits
Jam
Cool drinks
Do we need to eat lots of sugary foods?
No. These foods don’t have all the important nutrients in them that our bodies need.
Which type of foods contain starch?
Maize meal
Potatoes
Rice
Some vegetables
Why should you eat more starch than sugar?
Energy from starch is released more slowly. This means that the energy lasts longer.
