Comlex is better because it digests slower, preventing energy spikes and crashes.
What foods can you get carbs from?
WHole grains, fruits, veggies, beans, etc.
What do proteins do?
Proteins are your body’s building blocks
Aid in growth and repair body tissue.
Protein is not your body’s main energy source, and it is only used for energy when absolutely necessary.
How much of your diet should consist of protein?
10-30%
What are some foods high in protein?
Meats, fish, eggs, beans, nuts, etc.
What do fats do?
Fats help your body absorb key vitamins and minerals that your body can’t produce on it’s own.
Many types of fats - trans fats, saturated fats, unsaturated fats, etc.
What type of fat should you avoid?
Saturated fats increase LDL and is found in things like butter, cheese, red meat, etc.
What type of fat should you eat more of?
Unsaturated fats are healthier than saturated fats and are found in things like nuts, eggs, certain types of oils like avocado or canola oil, fish, seeds, etc.
What are minerals?
essential nutrients in the body that keep your body functioning and regulates your metabolism.
What are some examples of minerals?
Calcium, iron, fluoride, zinc, manganese, etc.
What are vitamins?
Vitamins help your body fight disease, regulate hormones, grow your heart, skin, and nerves, and helps with vision, bones, blood, and your immune system. There are lots of different types of vitamins and each one helps your body in a different way.
What is a calorie?
a calorie is a measurement of energy that we consume.
What is calorie intake?
Calorie intake is how many calories you consume in a day by eating.
What is calorie output?
Calorie output is how many calories your body expels in a day by exercising or getting rid of waste.
What is energy balance?
energy balance refers to balancing how many calories you burn vs how many calories you consume. If you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight, and if you burn more calories than you eat, you will lose weight.
What is a resting metabolism?
Your resting metabolism refers to the amount of calories you burn by sleeping or doing nothing.
What factors influence a persons resting metabolism?
Body composition, body size, and age.
What is MyFitnessPal?
An app that tracks your calories and nutrient intake, giving you personalized goals to help you reach your ideal weight or health.
What are some barriers that may stop you from eating healthy?
Money - cheap food is usually more unhealthy
Busy schedule - it may be easier to pick up fast food than to cook a meal every night if you are tired or don’t have the time.
No education - some people may want to eat healthier, but don’t know where to start or how to differ unhealthy from healthy.
