Nutrients Flashcards
Nitrogen fertilisers.
Ammonium sulphate.
Acid reaction in growing medium.
Often used in conjunction with ferrous sulphate to achieve very green turf.
Nitrogen.
Fertilisers
Ammonium nitrate.
Rapidly absorbs moisture to become wet, cakes when drying.
Fire risk.
Can be safely handled as perils and in polythene sacks.
Nitrogen.
Fertiliser- urea
High nitrogen content.
Releases ammonia in contact with water.
Usually used as liquid fertiliser, can be used as foliage feed.
Nitrogen
Controlled release fertilisers
Urea coated with sulpher - controlled release fertiliser and acid reaction.
Urea formaldehydes, isobutylidene urea, crotonylidene.
Nitrogen
Natural organic sources.
Dried blood, hoof and horn.
Generally slow release but quicker in warm conditions eg. Glass house.
Phosphorus fertilisers.
Slow action
Rock phosphate.
Bone meal.
Finely ground.
Applied to grassland, tree plantings and preparing borders..
Water soluble phosphates
Superphosphate -rock phosphate treated with sulphuric acid, composed of water soluble sulphate and calcium sulphate.
Triple superphosphate, derived from phosphoric acid treatment.
