Nutrient Deficiency in Purple Tongue
Typically not directed in nutrient deficiencies
Characterized by low red blood cell (RBC) or hemoglobin levels, resulting in decreased hematocrit and hemoglobin content. The pathophysiology varies with the cause.
Anemia
Pathogenesis of Anemia
Blood loss, RBC Destruction (hemolysis) and decrease in RBCProduction
Clinical Manifestations of Anemia
Fatigue, Irregular Heartbeats, Shortness of breath, Pale skin, Cold hands and Feet
Treatment f Anemia
Supplementation of Iron, Ascorbic Acid, Folate and Vitamin B12
Represents partial or complete loss of predominantly filiform papillae and minorly fungiform papillae on the dorsal surface of the tongue.
Anthropic Papillae
Contain a relatively thick layer of keratinized stratified squamous epithelium that protects the underlying connective and nerve cells from chemical, mechanical and physical stimuli
Filiform Papillae
Consists of plenty of taste cells that are responsible for mainly sweet and salty taste sensations
Fungiform Papillae
Pathogenesis of Anthropic Pappillaee
Smooth, glossy dorsal surface of the tongue
Development of tongue lesions
