What are staple foods?
Foods that are mainly eaten in your diet
Examples: Cereal, breads, pasta
What are prestige foods?
Expensive, rare, or protein foods
What are body image foods?
Foods that influence health, well-being, and appearance
Examples: Fruits, vegetables, shakes, smoothies
What are Sympathetic Magic Foods?
foods that focus on the characteristics of a food or beverage based on a human body quality or health outcomes
Example: Italians drinking red wine to resemble healthy blood
What are physiologic foods?
Foods that are consumed based on physiologic status
Examples: Gender, age, and health condition
Core foods
Consumed regularly in the diet
Ex. rice, corn
Secondary foods
Foods widely but less frequently eaten, such as once or twice a week (ex. Apples, chicken, lettuce)
Peripheral foods
Foods that are eaten sporadically,
A characteristic of individual food preference, not habit
Complementary foods
Flavorful food items to improve palatability with the core food (ex. Starch and vegetables)
