This amendatory law addressed the need to regulate the application of treatments and medication including
the application hypodermic and intramuscular injections
Giving injections must have written orders from the doctor
IV and other injections may be administered under direction and in presence of a physician
The previous order in writing shall not be necessary provided, that the application and execution of such
order is made in the presence of a physician
This does not apply to nursing students

Section 5 Requirements Upon Qualification as Member of the Board of Nursing.

- this prohibition is reflective of the Constitutional provision on conflict of interest where one is not
allowed to directly or indirectly practice
Section 6, Term of Office
Shall hold office for a term of (3) years & until their successors shall have been appointed & qualified
Any vacancy in the Board occurring within the term of a Member shall be filled for the unexpired portion of
the term only. Each Member of the Board shall take the proper oath of office prior to the performance of
his/her duties.
Section 7, Compensation of Board Members
Shall receive compensation & allowances comparable to the compensation & allowances received by the
Chairperson & members of other professional regulatory boards compensation & salary grades provided by
the Salary Standardization Law.
Section 8, Administrative Supervision of the Board, Custodian of its Records, Secretariat and Support
Services
The Board shall be under the administrative supervision of the Commission. All records of the Board,
including applications for examinations, administrative and other investigative cases conducted by the Board
shall be under the custody of the Commission. The Commission shall designate the Secretary of the Board
and shall provide the secretariat and other support services to implement the provisions of this Act.
Section 9 Powers and Duties of the Board
P – prescribe, adopt, issue & promulgate guidelines & regulations, promulgate a code of ethics
I – issue, suspend or revoke certificates of registration
E – ensure quality nursing education
C – conduct licensure exam for nurses, conduct hearings & investigations to resolve complaints against nurse
practitioners
E – enforces quality standards of nursing practice & recognizes nursing specialty organizations
Section 10. Annual Report
The Board shall at the close of its calendar year submit an annual report to the President of the Philippines
through the Commission giving a detailed account of its proceedings and the accomplishments during the
year and making recommendations for the adoption of measures that will upgrade and improve the conditions
affecting the practice of the nursing profession.
