Weight Milestones of Infants/Toddlers/School Age
Will loose up to 10% of birth weight by 4 days old
Avg weight of a 6 month old is 16 lbs
Birth weight is tripled by 1 year
At 30 months, kids should weigh 4x their birth weight
gain 2-3 kg (4.4-6.6 lb)/yr b/w ages 6-12
Height By 12 Months
Babies increase their birth height 50% by the first year
Appearance of Teeth
First teeth appear between 6 and 10 months
6-8 teeth by the end of the first year
Fontanelles
Posterior fontanelle closes by 6-8 weeks
Anterior fontanelle closes by 12-18 months
1 month old milestones
Grasp reflex, head lag
3 month old milestones
lifts head and shoulders off mattress, disappearance of grasp reflex
6 month milestones
Rolls from back to front (this begins around 5 months), holds bottle
7 month milestones
Moves object from hand to hand, bears weight on feet
8 month milestones
Sits unsupported, Begins using pincer grasp
12 month milestones!!!!!!!
Sits down from a standing position w/o assistance
Tries to build a 2 block tower w/o success, can turn pages
Reflexes
Babinski- stroking the bottom of the child’s foot, disappears by 1 year
Stepping reflex- hold child and they make a step disappears by 4 weeks
Extrusion reflex- child spits out food when put on tongue, disappears by 4 months
Moro reflex- extension of arms and legs when child is jarred, disappears by 3-4 months
Language
vowels by 2 months, consonants by 3 months, 3-5 words by 1 year
1 word sentences by 1 yrs old
300 words by 2 yrs old
Simple sentences by 3 yrs old
Toddler Height Growth Rate & Head Circ
Toddlers grow about 3 inches/year
*Head and chest circumference usually equal by 1-2 yrs old
Nephrotic Syndrome
*collection of symptoms due to kidney damage
expect HIGH CHOLESTEROL (do not expect high sodium, low Hgb, low platelets, etc.)

How should you feed post op cleft palate kids?
With a cup! just do it
