what is a streptococcus pneumonia
gram positive alphahemolytic/beta hemolytic anerobic bacteria.
What are the sounds in auscultation?
wheezing, small clicking & rattling sounds

Relax airway muscles
What is a pernicious anemia?
A Rare blood disorder due to deficiency of B12. These cant be absorbed due to the Lack of cells in stomach that make intrinsic factors
What symptoms of pernicious anemia?
- weight loss
- mild fatigue
- Dizziness
- Pale skin
- Tingling skin
- Racing HR
- weakness
Why is Vitamin B12 given IM & not orally?
There is no Intrinsic factor (role- absoprtion) in the stomach for the B12 to absorb if ingested orally.
How is pneumonia spread?
Droplets & airborne
Which part of the lungs does pneumonia affect?
Air sacs/Alveoli which would be filled with pus or fluid.
How to tell if a child had adequate fluid intake?
- Good urine output
- Lemonade coloured urine
- Skin
- Tongue
How to estimate fluid balance for peads?
- frequency of nappy
- weight loss/ gain
How does staphlococcus aureus pneumonia spread?
- Contact isolation
- Lung
- through the blood
- infected sites such as skin
What is respiratory acidosis?
- when lungs cant remove enough of CO2 that the body produces (hyopventilation)
- Excess CO2 causes PH of blood and other bodily fluids to decrease making ACID.
What is the normal pH of blood?
7.35 -7.45
