What are the 5 conditions of nurse delegation?
A
- Licensed RN gives you the task
- Only qualified can on the task
- Task can be delegated, but there are 4 tasks you CANNOT do
- Delegation can only be for 1 CLIENT and 1 TASK
- Delegation can only happen in 4 community settings

Who CANNOT delegate a task to you?
A
Anyone who is not a registered Nurse

A
- Blood glucose monitoring
- G-tube feeding
- Administer medications
- Catheter placement using sterile process
- Ostomy care

A
- Injections, other than insulin
- Maintaining a central line
- Any task that includes a Nurse’s judgment
- Sterile procedures

What are the 4 requirements before taking on a Nurse delegated task?
A
- Be certified (CNA/HCA/etc.)
- Have a Nurse delegation
- Be willing to take the task
- Show competency to the Nurse that you can do this task without being supervised

- Licensed residential programs for the developmentally disabled
- Licensed Adult family home
- Licensed Assisted living facility
- Client’s home

Responsibilities of Nurse Delegation
A
- Perform the Nurse delegated task from written instructions
- Observe the client for any changes in condition
- Report to RN any changes in condition
- Report to RN any new/changes to medications, and any new/changes to treatments
- Keeping your registration up to date, renewing it on time
