Number Relationships & Patterns Flashcards
What is a rational number?
A rational number is a number that can be written as a fraction(denominator and numerator are integers)
What are natural numbers?
Numbers starting from 1 and increasing in ones until infinity
What are whole numbers?
Numbers starting from 0 and increasing in ones until infinity
What are integers?
Numbers starting from -infinity to +infinity, increasing in ones.
What are imaginary numbers?
A number expressed as the square root of a negative number.
Besides fractions, how else can you identify rational numbers?
They are also recurring decimals (eg 0.4444444) and terminating decimals (e.g 0.75)
What are irrational numbers?
Numbers that cannot be written as a fraction or non-recurring and non-terminating. Examples are pi and 2.3456….
How do you obtain an undefined number/result?
When you divide any number by 0.
How do you determine between which two integers an irrational number lies?
Step 1: Look for the first perfect square that is less than the number on the square root as well as a perfect square that is greater than the same number.
Step 2:
How many ways are there to represent numbers and inequalities. Name them.
2 ways.
Set builder notation and interval notation.
