Nuclear Technology Flashcards
Nuclear energy
Nuclear Energy is released from the nucleus or core of an atom
Compact nucleus of an atom has tremendous amount of energy and the nucleus is held together by a strong force
This nucleus of atom undergoes change either through nuclear fission or fusion and intern releases tremendous amount of energy
Nuclear fuel is utilised to generate heat which is then utilized to generic electrical power
Nuclear fuel –(heat)-> steam generation –(pressure stream)-> mechanical energy –(turbines rotate)-> electrical energy
It’s a double edged sword because while nuclear energy is cheap, greenest and safest source, it is responsible for the worst disasters known to mankind such as the Chernobyl, atom bombs in Japan, etc.
Types of nuclear reactions
