Nuclear Flashcards
radioisotope
A radioisotope is an unstable isotope that undergoes radioactive decay.
nuclear decay
The process that radioisotopes undergo when they lose energy by emitting particles. During nuclear decay protons can become neutrons or vice versa.
3 types of decay
Alpha, beta, gamma
half life
The half life is the time an unstable isotope takes for half of its nucleus to decay into a more stable form.
biomagnification
Biomagnification is the build up of a chemical, usually toxic, in an organism’s tissues.
Eutrophication Definition
Eutrophication is excessive plant or algae growth due to too many resources provided for photosynthesis like excess nutrients caused by agricultural run off.
