NTS Function Flashcards
What are neurotransmitters?
Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers passed from the presynaptic neuron to the postsynaptic neuron across the synapse.
How do neurotransmitters cross the synapse?
Neurotransmitters are electrical signals that need to change into a chemical signal to cross the synapse.
What happens when a neurotransmitter reaches the postsynaptic neuron?
It is absorbed and changes the chemical signal back into an electrical one.
What is the role of dopamine?
Dopamine controls bodily movements and emotional responses.
Dopamine deficiency is related to mental health conditions such as depression.
What is the role of serotonin?
Serotonin affects both emotions and motor skills.
Serotonin supports sleeping, eating, and digestion.
