What sort of treatment should be used initially to improve walking limitations and impairments in pts with PD?

A

Treadmill training with BWS. Benefits include increased step length and walking speed. Also improves cardiovascular endurance and 6 MWT.

What sorts of exercise therapy improves balance and reduces rates of falls for pts with PD?

A

Tai Chi, Boxing and dance. Intense balance training can also improve balance.

What considerations are important to consider with exercise prescription for pts with PD?

A

Poor patient adherence to programs is very common due lack of motivation in PD pts. To overcome this barrier, can enrol PD pts into classes that are ran a certain times and days with other PD pts. Incorporates a social component and makes others accountable to pts attending classes.

60 minute sessions, 2 x a week, for at least 24 weeks.
