What is Phlebotomy?
The process of making a puncture in a vein, with a cannula (needle)
How long should you wash your hands?
For at least 20 seconds
What is an inpatient facility?
A type of medical care provided to patients who stay at the facility
What is an Outpatient facility?
A facility that doesn’t require the patient to stay overnight
What is a clinical laboratory?
A lab that collects specimens in order to provide them to doctors with information.
what is a reference laboratory?
A lab that doesn’t collect specimens but analyze specimens from another facility
What is analyzed in chemistry?
They are concerned with the presence of certain chemicals. (ex. glucose, calcium, etc.)
What is coagulation?
The process of blood clotting
What is studied in microbiology?
Microorganisms
What is a microorganism?
A living thing so small they can only be seen under a microscope
What is culture in medicine?
To cause any microorganisms present to multiply
What is analyzed in immunology?
The body’s response to diseases
What is an antibody?
A protein made by the body to protect against foreign substances
What is a blood bank concerned with?
They are concerned with collecting and preparing blood for transfusions
What is studied in Pathology?
The study of causes and effects of disease
