A

The revolt spread to the city. Workers’ and soldiers’ councils were established, similar to Soviets the year before.

A

There were workers and soldiers’ councils springing up spontaneously all over Germany, mostly by patriotic Germans who wanted the Kaiser to abdicate and build a democratic republic

A

A republic was proclaimed in Bavaria and the Bavarian monarchy was deposed

What happened on the 9th November 1918?

A

•The SPD called on workers in Berlin to join a general strike to force the Kaiser to abdicate and threatened to withdraw support from Prince Max’s government if the Kaiser did not abdicate
•Prince Max released a press statement claiming the Kaiser abdicated then resigned as Chancellor, giving the title to Ebert

A

Stood on the balcony of the Reichstag and declared that the German Republic was now in existance after Ebert became Chancellor
