Nominative Case
most likely indicates the subject of the sentence; sometimes appears with a linking verb as a predicate nominative
Genitive Case
Limits or modifies another noun; commonly conveys the idea of possession.
Dative Case
shows a person or thing indirectly affected by the verb (indirect object); often the word “to” or “for” is supplied in translation.
Accusative Case
the direct object of a sentence or object of a preposition
Ablative Case
“adverbial case”; limits or modifies a verb conveying ideas such as means, agent, accompaniment, manner, place, or time; often the word “from,” “by,” or “with” are supplied in translation.
Vocative Case
used as a call or address; can sometimes operate as an interjection
