contraindications to tocolysis
greater than 34 weeks gestation
Non-reassuring cardiotocograph, fatal foetal anomaly or intrauterine death
Intrauterine growth restriction or placental insufficiency
Cervical dilation greater than 4cm
Chorioamnionitis
Maternal factors such as pre-eclampsia, ante-partum haemorrhage, haemodynamic instability
congenital adrenal hyperplasia
autosomal recessive disorder
deficiency of 21-hydroxylase enzyme causing reduced production of cortisol and aldosterone and an increased production of androgens
tall for age
primary amenorrhea
early puberty
hypogonadotropic hypogonadism
cause of both primary and secondary amenorrhoea where there is a deficiency in both LH and FSH, which in turn leads to a deficiency of oestrogen
hypergonatropic hypogonadism
ovaries do not respond to stimulation by LH and FSH
Due to the lack of negative feedback from the ovaries, the anterior pituitary gland continues to produce LH and FSH.
