Stephen f Austin was a good choice to colonize Texas because he was a successful business man in Missouri and Arkansas he was was a judge and legislature. He was very patient and had a great deal of energy

Each settler received 640 acres of land
A husband and wife were eligible for an additional 320 acre
Each child obtained 160 acres
Each slave added 80 acres to the Land grant
