Notes Flashcards
What is a geodetic elevation
Seal level is used as the referenced elevation
A reference point that is mathematically unique to a point on sight and used as a reference is called a what
A datum point
What are the optical levels
Dumpy
Tilted
Automatic
A dumpy level can only work when a measurement is taking from bench mark
.. just read the top
You set up a builders level take a measurement from the bench mark it would be called a back sight
Subtracting your back sight from your bench mark will find out the elevation at your optical level
foresight is than a measurement takin after you taken the back sight to your bench mark, found your elevation of your level (builders) and than you take a new measurement
Bench mark adding back sight is your hight of instrument
Hight of instrument - your foresight is the elevation.
A rod used for a building level is called a Philadelphia rod
Read question
What is a stadia line are used for
Calculating the DISTANCE through the eyepiece
Calculating the distance from instrument and the bench mark
Dumpy levels are the least accurate and hardest to set up
..
Tilted levels have 3 leveling screws
When leveling the tilted level you keep one where is it- and change the the other two leveling screws to be level with the stationary screw. When it is level the air bubble will be in the centre of the bullseye
..
Horizontal piping supports graph is 2.3.4.5 in the plumbing code book.
ALWAYS CHECK ADDITIONAL SUPPORT CONDITIONS ON GRAPH ( cast iron needs a hanger adjacent to each hub or joint

Architects rod
Goes up by 1/8ths of an inch
Goes up by the SIDES OF THE BLACK LINES
= 1/8th per inch
Engineers rod
Goes up by the SIDES OF THE BLACK LINES
= 0.1 of a foot

METRIC RODS
Metric rods go by METERS of elevation
And each SIDE of the black markings = 10mm
