Note Values Flashcards
What is the relationship between the notes?
Each one is half of the previous.
Breve — semibreve — minim — crotchet — quaver — semiquaver — demisemiquaver — hemidemisemiquaver
What will a dot after the note do?
Multiply the note’s value by 1.5, e.g.
Dotted crotchet = 1.5 crotchets
What will two dots after the note do?
Multiply the note’s value by 1.75, e.g.
Double-dotted crotchet = 1.75 crotchets
[NB: this is because a note adds on half, so a second note will add on half of a half (3/4) to give 1 3/4 of a note.]
What are enharmonic notes?
Two notes that are written differently but sound the same.
