Is where management establishes a work environment that is both healthy and safe for workers
Workplace Safety
Contains the minimum standards that employers and employees in Ontario must follow
Employment Standards Act (ESA)
Protects individual freedoms of
employees and makes it illegal in the workplace to harass or discriminate against
gender, race, religion, age, etc.
Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC)
Was created to promote healthy and safe workplaces, encourage safe and timely return to work, and to
provide insured benefits to workers who get injured on the job
Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA)
Governs job safety for all Canadian workplaces by defining the rights and responsibilities for all parties in the workplace, as well as the procedures for dealing with workplace hazards and for enforcement as needed
Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
Your Rights
- To know. You have the right to be informed of any hazards in your workplace and the right to be provided training so you can work safely
- To participate. You have the right to be involved in health and safety issues in your workplace
- To refuse unsafe work. You have the right to decline work that you believe is dangerous to your health or safety, or the health of safety of
another worker
Your Responsibilities
- To inform yourself. If you don’t know, you cannot take care
- To work safely. Don’t fool around. Use equipment the way you are taught and use required equipment at all times
- To report and unsafe condition or occurrence. Tell a supervisor, they need to know
- To report any injury. Any injury on the job must be reported to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), and also see your doctor
