referred visceral pain
- pain in the right shoulder
- pain between the scapulae
- tenderness over the right 10th rib
- right upper quadrant epigastric pain.
- Pain can extend around the ribs to the inferior angle of the right shoulder blade.
- insidious onset of pain that is worse after foods high in refined carbohydrates and saturated fats.

- Vague low back pain can be the first sign of
- Pain is often not relieved by rest and may be most intense at night.
- Pain progresses regardless of modification of activities and use of medication.

what pathology?
- Common in middle aged men and women.
- Interruption of urine flow results in severe pain that may radiate from the thoracolumbar region around to the lower abdomen and groin.

Kidney Stones
what pathology?
- severe pain in the abdominal or back area when fatty meals are consumed.
- Pain is colicky (sharp episodic pain occurring at intervals) with periods of improvement and relief.
Gallstones
what pathology?
- fever
- vague aching pain in the lower back that radiates into the rectum.
Prostatitis
what pathology?
- Pain is often across the back and radiates to the groin.
- report dysuria, urgency and frequency.
- infection affects the renal system the pain is often more severe and can radiate to the upper back.
- Fever may also be present.
Urinary Tract Infections
what pathology?
- Vague abdominal and back pain.
- Pain often worsens with hunger or with high acid levels in the stomach.
- Pain often lessens with use of antacids.
Duodenal Ulcers
what pathology?
- middle or lower back, thoracolumbar back pain
- epigastric pain which may radiate to the back.
- Pain typically worsens after eating or when the individual is in supine.
- Nausea, fever, and abdominal tenderness may also be present.
- Often triggered by binge drinking or gallstones.
Pancreatitis
what pathology? Classic triad of symptoms: - Missed menstrual period - Vaginal bleeding - Abdominal or lower back pain. - Patients may also be diaphoretic or in shock.
Ectopic Pregnancy
what pathology?
- Back pain is usually mid thoracic and may radiate to the arm or axilla.
- Pain may be unaffected by posture or changes in position.
- Anterior chest heaviness, pressure
- Crushing chest pain
- Diaphoresis (excessive sweating)
- Sense of impending doom
- Pain radiating to the shoulder, neck, arm(s).
Myocardial Infarction
what pathology?
- mid lower abdominal area and low back
- pain acute, severe and tearing.
- Pain can radiate to the anterior chest.
- Rest does not relieve it.
- Palpation over the back and changes in position do not aggravate the pain.
- Palpation of the abdomen may increase pain.
- Loss of lower extremity pulses may occur as the dissection progresses.

Aortic Aneurysm
- It is a true medical emergency.
what pathology?
- right shoulder, upper back, and chest
- abdominal, right lower thoracic, right upper trapezius, and right shoulder pain
- pain is dull or cramping.
Depending on the severity of disease, nausea, vomiting or restlessness may also be present.
Liver
- Pain supra pubic or low abdomen, low back can be referred to pelvis
- sharp, localized moderate to severe intensity
- intermittent may be relieved by emptying the bladder
- urinary urgency, dysuria, tenesmus (a continual or recurrent inclination to evacuate the bowels), hot or burning sensation during urination
bladder
what pathology?
- flank pain on the affected side which may radiate anteriorly or around the flank to the lower abdominal quadrant.
- Pain may range from vague cramping to severe and may be accompanied by fever and chills.
