Q

What can Total Body Water (TBW) be divided into?

A

Intracellular fluid (ICF)
-Inside all cells
-2/3 OF TBW

Extracellular fluid (ECF)
-Surrounds all cells
-1/3 of TBW
Divided into:

-Interstitial fluid ISF- between blood vessels and cells 3/4 of ECF
-Plasma- 1/4 of ECF
-Transcellular fluid (contained within epithelial lined spaces) approx 0.5L

Q

How can compartments be measured

A

X= amount of indicator
V= Volume of fluid
C= Final concentration

C= X/V
