What are nosodes?
They are biological preparations used in homeopathic medicine to prevent disease.
Treatment derived from an element of a disease or from a disease tissues defined as “a homoeopathically prepared remedy made from an infectious disease product either directly from the bacteria or virus, or less directly from a tissue purported to contain it”
What type of dilution is involved in preparing nosodes?
usually by factors of 100
What type of evidence supports nosodes?
There is limited data and evidence. There is a cochrane review of an avian nosode preparation for influenza; it concluded that there is low-quality evidence to support its efficacy.
How is the evidence for nosodes different than that for vaccines?
There is lots of evidence that vaccines are safe and efficacious. Nosodes have not been studied for the prevention of any infections that vaccines prevent.
Are nosodes legal?
Yes. They are approved for human use in Canada under Health Canada’s Natural Health Products Regulations. However there is no scientific or medical evidence that nosodes are effective in preventing infectious disease.
What is the CPS’ standpoint on using Nosodes as an alternative to vaccines?
the CPS beeves that nosodes are clearly not a safe or efficacious alternative to vaccines. The CPS wants them labeled: this product has not been proven to prevent infection. Health Canada advises that your child receives all routine vaccinations even if they take this product.”
