Airborne precautions for:
TB, VZV, measles
Droplet precautions for:
influenza, pertussis, adenovirus, neisseria meningitidis, diptheria
contact precautions:
MRSA, VRE, MDR GNR
UA for UTI in women, men:
women: >10^6
men: >10^3
catheter associated UTI caused by orgs:
yeast 30%
E. coli 25%
other GNR
Treat UTI:
Uncomplicated: nitrofurantoin, TMP-SMX, or fluoroquinolone (cipro/levo)
Complicated: TMP-SMX or fluoroquinolone
Can NOT use moxifloxacin - no urinary penetration
Bacteremia orgs:
#1 Staph. epidermidis -Staph. aureus, candida, enterococci, Klebsiella
TEE if S. aureus
Remove lines, central venous catheters, can keep central venous catheter if S. epi
C. diff caused by these Abx:
Broad spectrum:
Clidamycin, Ampicillin, Cephalosporins, FQ
C. diff eval:
Symptoms
Stool EIA or PCR
Glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) - high sensitivity
