Skeleton of external nose
Bones: nasal, frontal processes of maxillae, nasal part of the frontal bine and its nasal sppine
Cartilage of nasal bone
5 main: 2 lateral cartilage, 2 alar cartilage, a septal caritlage
Nasal Septum includes
Perpendicular plate of ethmoid
Vomer, spetal cartilage,
small sections of palatine and maxialle caled nasal crests
Nasal Cavities pathway
enters anteriorly throughe nares( nostrils)
vestibules are lines with skin and stiff hairs
Vestibules are a cavity situated at the enternace to a hollow
Opens posteriorly into nasopharanx through choanae (funnel shaped openings)
Nasal Cavites (mucous Membranes)
firmly bound to adjacent periosteum and perichondrium.
Muscous membranes
eg nasopharanx posterioly paranasal sinuses,
frontal, ethmoid, sphenoid, mazillary)
lacrimal sac and conjuctiva superiorly
Boundaries of Nasal cavity (lateral wall)
irregular:
nasal conchae
superior, middle ethmoid
inferior nasal concahe
Sphenoethmodial recess?
opening of the sphenoidal sinuses
Superior Concha?
opening of the posterior ehtmoidal sinuses
Middle concha?
frontal, maxiallry, sinuses
ethmoid (anterior ells, middle cells)
Inferior concha
Inferior meatus
nasolacrimal duct (drains tears from lacrimal sac)
