- Socially enforced through primary and secondary socialisation.
- Moral guides
- Vary between cultures

- Beliefs and ideas society deems important
- Encourage goo behaviour.

How do norms and values link?
A
- The reason we perform certain behaviour is because we hold certain beliefs.
- E.G. value of ‘respect’ leads to norm of listening and obeying teachers

A
- Margret Mead (1935)=
- Southern Ethiopia
- Study of male and females roles
- Found both to be gentle and cooperative (feminine)
- Very different to British culture
