what happend at gate fulford
morcar and edwin met tostig and harald with 10 000 troops but were pushed back into marshlannd and massacred
when was the battle of stanford bridge
25 september 1066
what happend at stanford bridge
harold marched north quickly and suprised the vikings who had left there army on ships, harald and tostig were both killed
significance of the northern battles
william landed at the south at the same time, so harold had to march back down meaning he had less troops and they were tired
what happened at the battle of hastings
harold positioned his army in a sheild wall on a hill, william couldnt get through untill they did a feigned retreat which broke the line and they could cut down the army and kill harold
why did william win
william had better tactics, the norman army were better trained and had cavalry and archers, harold was tired, william had god on his side
