Nikolaas Tinbergen was an ethologist and zoologist. He posed 4 ‘why’ questions. What were those questions?
- Why do some animals respond to internal stimuli in a certain way?
- Why do some animals respond to environmental stimuli in a certain way?
- Why do animals of a certain species or group behave in particular ways?
- Why do some animals respond in one way and others in another?
What was Nikolaas Tinbergen’s main study focus on?
Seagulls
Finish the sentence.
Different species of animals will have different ………… behaviour.
Normal
Briefly describe the term ‘stereotypical behaviour’.
This is a normal behaviour that is done excessively. Used as a stress-reliever. Serves no purpose to the animal.
What is an ethogram used for?
An ethogram has a list of behaviours of which we can expect to be shown as well as a description of what each behaviour means. It allows ethologists to easily record the behaviour of which animals are displaying.
