Nonvasculars Flashcards
What phylum’s make up nonvascular plants?
Anthocerophyta, Marchantiophyta, and Bryophyta.
What is a nonvascular plant?
a nonvascular plant is a plant that lacks a vascular system meaning it has no xylem and no phloem.
Nonvascular plants are typically smaller in size. Why is this?
Nonvascular plants cannot do long distance nutrient transport which is why they are typically smaller in size.
What is the maximum height of nonvascular plants?
Maximum height is a foot and that is at the very highest.
Since they cannot do long distance nutrient transport, how do they absorb their nutrients?
They absorb nutrients with their whole body instead of just their roots.
This is done through the leaves and stems.
Why do moss, liverworts, and hornworts have the ability to live on surfaces that are not soil?
Because they can absorb nutrients through their bodies instead of just their roots.
