Q

Recurring Donations - What is the difference between Cash and Accrual Accounting?

A

Cash accounting - All income and expenses are recorded when the income is received or the expenses are paid.

Accrual accounting - All income and expenses are recorded when they are incurred, not when they are received or paid. For example, you would report your income when the money is pledged—not when it’s received. Likewise, you would report your expenses according to the date of the bill, not the day you pay the bill.

Q

Recurring Donations - Based on an organization’s accounting type, what solution should be used to track a fixed-length donation?

A

For cash accounting, use a Fixed-Length Recurring Donation, which has multiple close dates corresponding to each “child” donation received. Tracking recurring donations in this way gives you a record date for each donation.

For accrual accounting, use a standard Salesforce Opportunity, which lets you have multiple “child” payments, but which has one close date for the entire opportunity. The single close date gives you the single accounting record date you need when using accrual accounting.

Q

Volunteers - How should an organisation make sure that Shifts show the correct time zone to the user viewing the shift on its website?

A

By setting the Job’s Volunteer Website Time Zone

There are multiple factors that affect time zones in V4S, so it’s important to understand how they work: When you save a Shift’s Start Date and Time, Salesforce assumes the time zone specified in your Salesforce user account, and saves the Date and Time internally in Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). If a Salesforce user views the Shift in Salesforce, the Shift Start Date and Time is displayed in the time zone specified in that user’s Salesforce account (even if it’s a different time zone than yours). When a person views the Shift on your website, either from the Job Calendar or Job Listing page, the Start Date and Time are based on the following (in order): The Job’s Volunteer Website Time Zone (if set) The Campaign’s Volunteer Website Time Zone (if set) The Site Guest User Profile’s Time Zone (if set) GMT So, if the Jobs/Shifts for a particular Campaign are in multiple time zones because they are in different locations, set the Volunteer Website Time Zone on the Job to ensure that the Start Date and Time appear in the correct time zone for the user viewing the Shift.

Q

Salesforce/NPSP Releases:
True or False: If you use and modify the default NPSP or Salesforce Compact Layouts, your changes can be/will be changed by an NPSP or Salesforce release.

A

True

The issue is that packaged Compact Layouts, unlike regular page layouts, get push upgraded whether you like it or not. This means that with any upgrades to NPSP, HEDA, or other Salesforce products, Compact Layouts for Accounts, Contacts, and other objects get pushed to your organization, overwriting any customizations you may have made. Which can lead to a lot of confusion, not to mention downright aggravation.

126
Q

Address Management:
True or False: When enabling State and Country picklists, NPSP does not support default Country values

A

True

Configuring a default Country value can cause an error if you select a Country that isn’t the default.

127
Q

Address Management:
True or False: When enabling State and Country picklists, a user must use pre-defined State and Country abbreviations on Address records.

A

True

On Address records, use the same abbreviations for State and Country as defined in the State and Country Picklists configuration. NPSP will write the full name of the State and Country on related Accounts and Contacts. For example, if you use both US and WA on the Address record you get United States and Washington on the Account and Contact records. If you use alternate spellings, NPSP will display an error.

140
Q

Address Management:
When updating an Account’s Billing Address, what’s the major difference in a org where Organizational Account Address Management is enabled?

A

The address is NOT copied to Contacts whose Account is the Organization’s.

When a Contact is directly associated with an Organization Account via the Contact’s Account field, standard Salesforce functionality copies the Account’s billing address to the Contact’s mailing address when the Contact is created. However, unlike with Household Accounts, an address update on an Organization Account does not trigger an address update on related Contact records. This means that even if the business moves and you update the Account address accordingly, the Mailing Address on a related Contact will not automatically be updated.

141
Q

Address Management:
What steps should be taken if an org wants to delete existing Address records?

A

Back up Contacts, Accounts, and Address records
